A Letter to My Unborn Son

A Letter to My Unborn Son

My Dearest Baby Boy,

I have yet to meet you, smell your skin or see your face; yet, I already know it will be the most precious moment of my life. It has been quite a journey to get to you, my sweet boy, but I’d do it 100 times over if, at the end, I could hold you in my arms.

For what seems like quite some time, we’ve been waiting for you to complete our family. Your daddy, your sister and I have dreamed of the day you would come home and make our lives complete. They say all great things take time, and you, my love, are worth every moment.

I can’t predict the future, and I don’t know what our life together will look like, but I want to make you a promise today, right now: I will never lose my faith in you.

From the very day God blessed me with you, we have faced our share of challenges. Our road to find one another wasn’t easy or without risk, but we made this journey together and overcame every obstacle. My little angel, I am in such awe of your strength because you persevered even when I thought our life together was crumbling. You remained steadfast in your journey to be of this world, and of this family. And now I believe, with every fiber of my being, that you were meant for a life more spectacular than I could possibly imagine. There is a reason you are here….

So, I will say it again: I will never lose my faith in you.

I will always believe in your resilience and spirit, even when you doubt it in yourself.

I will hold you; I will push you. I will cry with you; I will laugh with you.

I will snuggle in bed when you have a hard day.

When life seems unfair or the world unkind, I promise to remind you that there is goodness all around.

I promise to trust in your judgment, if you promise to trust in mine.

I will help you and guide you in becoming the person you were meant to be, and, as long as you are good and kind, I will accept you and love you just as you are.

And, when the time comes, I will let you go.

Never forget who you are, where you came from or the grit from which you are made. I will let you soar, my sweet boy, because you were meant to…but I will always be your home. You are fierce, you are brave and I know that you will make a place for yourself in this world that is remarkable and unique, because you were meant to be here and you were meant to be with me.

“The only people for me are the mad ones. The ones who are mad to love, mad to talk, mad to be saved; the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing, but burn, burn, burn like fabulous Roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars.”

I love you so much my mad little man. I’ll see you soon.

Xoxo,

Mama

Beautiful, mama. I’ve been enduring a journey of my own as I anxiously await the arrival of my second child. I admire your openness and see so much selflessness through your words. I’m glad you have chosen to write through the pain.
